Protecting the Hoof Sole by Closing an Open Sole Area

Many of our horseshoes feature an open sole area with an integrated debris guard, as this design typically works best for most horses. The open sole allows the hoof sole and frog to breathe, while the debris guard—similar to a Snowgrip® in a steel shoe—helps prevent mud, snow, and arena sand from accumulating.

However, while this setup is ideal for many horses, there are instances where closing the open sole area is necessary to provide additional protection for the hoof sole.

Our square closure plates have been refined into precision-fit closure plugs for the hoof sole area, which we now call the Hoof Sole Protector. These plugs, designed to protect the hoof sole, are available at discounted test prices as part of our Innovations range.
